Biscuit – A Warm Alternative to Traditional White for the Bathroom

Long gone are the days of bathroom fixtures in lurid colors like burgundy or robin’s egg blue. While such intense colors can appeal to the eye at first, they make updating a bathroom virtually impossible by severely constraining your palette options. The obvious solution is plain, classic white. But what if white just doesn’t quite suit the comfortable, quaint look you want for your bathroom? Biscuit may be just what you’re looking for.

Biscuit is the common name given to a creamy, off-white color readily available in many categories of bathroom fixtures. Some companies give it a fancier name, such as Toto’s “Sedona Beige” or American Standard’s “Linen”, but most manufacturers of bathroom products offer some of their fixtures in this color.

Despite the old-fashioned feel, biscuit is a relatively new color in the industry. Kohler first introduced biscuit to its product line in 1992. While other colors have since gone out of style, biscuit remains a popular choice as an alternative to stark white.

A cast iron bathtub is often the centerpiece of a bathroom, and in all likelihood you have never seen one in any color besides white. Cheviot now offers the Regal and Regency clawfoot bathtubs in biscuit as well as white, in all sizes and faucet options.

In most cases you can seamlessly combine fixtures from different companies, such as a Cheviot cast iron bathtub in Biscuit, with a Toto toilet in Sedona Beige. This gives homeowners and designers a vast range of options for bathrooms beyond simple, traditional white.
