Cleaning a cast iron bathtub starts with caring for its enamel surface. For a Cheviot tub, use the routine below from our care and maintenance guidance. If your bath has been refinished, or comes from another manufacturer, check the instructions for that particular finish.
How to clean a Cheviot cast iron tub
- Clean the enamel regularly using liquid soap and a soft cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly with water immediately after cleaning.
- Wipe the surface dry.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, wire brushes, steel wool and abrasive sponge pads. Cheviot’s FAQ specifically excludes VIM, FANTASTIC and SPIC & SPAN. Do not substitute a household cleaning recipe for the care instructions supplied with your bath.
What to do about stains or rust-coloured marks
If a mark remains after routine cleaning, contact our team before trying stronger products. Tell us where the mark appears, whether it returns after cleaning, and which products you have already used. Include a photograph of the whole tub and a close-up of the affected area.
A colour alone is not enough for us to identify the cause or recommend a treatment. We can review the information and advise on the next step for your Cheviot model.
Chips, scratches and refinished surfaces
Cleaning and repairing a finish are different tasks. For chipped, scratched or flaking enamel, ask for advice before sanding, scraping or applying a touch-up coating. Please do not assume a repair product recommended for another bath is suitable for yours.
